Lot Essay

The serpentined commode façade is embellished like the top with a mosaic parquetry tablet of flower-topped cubes but displays a theatrical medallion of a figure bearing a post-horn beneath a ring-hung garland. An almost identical commode was sold from the Thurn und Taxis Collection, Sotheby's house sale, Schloss St. Emmeram, Germany, 14 October 1993, lot 608.
