The shaded burgundy field with a central line of two trees issuing a profusion of flowering and leafy tendrils flanked by peacocks, doves and other perching and paired birds, surrounded by other smaller similar trees, in an ivory border of palmette flowering vine and paired birds, a signature cartouche above 'Fabrik Kaj...', between sandy yellow similar and zigzag stripes, outer shaded burgundy plain stripe

Lot Essay

Silk rugs from Meshed are extremely rare. In colouring, design and in its thick floppy weave however this rug is unlike the products of any other Persian towns known for their silk weavings. The density of the design in the border together with the palette make an attribution to Meshed almost certain.
