2° (553 x 390mm). 13pp. subscribers' list, engraved frontispiece and 60 plates (7 double-page, 7 folding) on 54 leaves, by Giuseppe Carlo Zucchi, Francesco Bartolozzi, Francis Patton and others. (Plate XVIII with crude repairs to torn fold affecting the image, marginal repairs to plates XX and XXXII, small marginal repairs to a few other leaves.) Modern half calf, uncut.

FIRST EDITION. "The plates... are of interest not only as fine examples of architectural engraving, but as showing the source of some of the motives of the Adam style": Fowler. The level of Adam's direct involvment was limited: the original drawings are by C.-L.Clérisseau and the historical introduction, the dedication to the King and, possibly, in part the description of the plates were written by Adam's cousin William Robertson.
