2° (575 x 380mm). Mounted on guards throughout. Title in red and black, preface leaf, 36pp. text. Double-page engraved table and 58 maps only (2 folding, 56 double-page). (Title and preface leaf detached.) Old diced russia-backed boards (worn). Provenance: Sir George Cockburn (admiral, 1772-1853, armorial bookplate and various lengthy annotations, one dated 1834).

The first English text edition of Hornius' Geographia vetus. The Jansson maps include a 6-sheet map of the Holy Land. Two of the sheets are actually printed on 2 joined folding sheets, giving a total of 8 sheets in all. This would account for the discrepancy between the present map total, and that given by Koeman for this edition. Koeman Ja 11 (calling for 61 maps and 1 plate).
