A Japonaise bamboo salon suite
Late 19th Century
Comprising a settee, a pair of armchairs, four side chairs and a sofa table: each with caned panels inset with rectangular mahogany panels decorated in relief with birds and flowerheads and painted with gilt and red lacquer; the settee with a rectangular back decorated with three panels between uprights with gnarled terminals, the rectangular seat between a pair of arm-rests, on slender legs with gnarled feet; the sofa-table with rectangular top inset with four small square panels and with a pair of hinged flaps, the frieze with a single drawer, on shaped legs joined by an 'H'-stretcher
