A French ormolu-mounted kingwood, parquetry and marquetry cabinet

Of serpentine outline, surmounted by a breakfront brèche violette marble top, above a waisted frieze, signed to the right hand side F. Linke, centred by a sunburst mask betwwen acanthus and foliate-cast clasps, with egg-and-dart, the central panel door inlaid with a marquetry panel of foliage and scrolls, the interior with adjustable shelves, with a pair of acanthus-cast hoof brackets, flanked by trellis parquetry and a pair of volute uprights, each with an acanthus bracket, the shaped trellis parquetry-inlaid sides each fitted with a shaped door, the interior with adjustable shelves, on plinth base, the lower left-hand side of the door frame with a metal label MAISON FOREST/J. Bezier Suc 31, rue Cambacéres, Paris

Lot Essay

This superb meuble d'appui combines the finest traditions of French craftmanship that were available, from the fine casting and chiselling of the mounts to the intricate work of the marquetry and trellis parquetry panels. Please see the note for Linke on lot 193.
