A BIZEN OSAFUNE TANTO WITH TOPPI-GOSHIRAE
Mei: Bishu Osafune Sukemitsu saku and dated Bunmei gannen (1469) hachigatsu bi
The blade hirazukuri with bo-hi ni soehi with tsume on both sides, forging pattern masame and itame, tempered edge chu-suguha in nioi and some ko-nie, chu-maru boshi with slight hakikake, tang ubu, 17cm., (tip slightly repolished),
; with a small toppi goshirae the scabbard with snakeskin fitted with a roiro kashira, kurikata, fuchi and kojiri and the hilt with shark skin, with an accompanying certificate for the blade, 19th Century

Lot Essay

Toppi goshirae was made in the late Edo period to fit the western style wear.
