A MANTETSU MANCHURIAN IRON KATANA AND A WAKIZASHI
Mei: Koa isshin Mantetsu saku, Showa kibi haru, 20th Century, the second mumei, 17th Century
The first honzukuri, iorimune with chu gissaki, slight torii-zori, forging pattern nashiji, tempered edge suguha of nioi, kaeri-boshi, tang ubu, 66.5cm., in a wood scabbard, (lacquer chipped and missing kurikata); and a wakizashi, the blade honzkuiri, iorimune, chu-gissaki with slight torii-zori, forging pattern itame and tempered edge suguha, maru-boshi, encased in black saya, cotton wrapped tsuka with menuki of Hannya mask and hammer, fuchi-kashira decorated with stylized clouds in shakudo hirazogan, the fuchi with signature Yokoya Somin, an oval tsuba decorated with a man in a hourse in iroe takazogan, kozuka decorated with butterflies, all fittings in copper, 19th Century (2)
