Lot Essay

Other versions are that with Frank T. Sabin in 1954, sold at Christie's London, 28 June 1963, lot 37, illustrated and now in the Yale Center for British Art at New Haven (see J. Baskett and D. Snelgrove, The Drawings of Thomas Rowlandson in the Paul Mellon Collection, 1977, p.18 no.31, illustrated), in which the sign board on the building on the left is inscribed, and one formerly in the B.T. Batsford Collection.
