A rare German medieval hauswehr, and a pair of Italian rear saddle-steels
The first late 15th/early 16th Century, the second mid-16th Century
The first in excavated condition, with single-edged leaf-shaped blade double-edged towards the point, beaked pommel, and single rudimentary quillon on the bolster, the grip pierced with three holes for the grip-scales (missing); the second of rectangular form shaped to fit the high cantle of a military saddle and pierced for attachment, the top amd side edges flanged, and etched throughout with bands and borders of interlinked strapwork lozenges against a granular ground (rubbed, some pitting, splitting and chipping along edges)
