Lot Essay

The circular berried laurel arm-supports of these fauteuils also feature on a suite of related seat-furniture made in 1828 by Vassilei Strom for the large Drawing-Room in the apartments of the Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaievna and Duke Maximilian of Leuchtenberg in the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg (M.B. Piotrovsky, The Winter Palace Saint Petersburg, Saint Petersburg, 1995, pp. 216-217.)
