A SWEDIDH ORMOLU-MOUNTED TULIPWOOD, AMARANTH AND MARQUETRY BUREAU PLAT
19th 20th Century, in the manner of Gustaf Adolph Ditzinger
The rectangular top with inset black leather-lined writing-surface framed by a flowerhead-filled guilloche-band, husk-trails and further concentric bands and with gardrooned and husk-trailed edge, to either side above a central panelled frieze-drawer with stiff-leaf band and flowerhead-filled guilloche motif flanked by two conforming short drawers and divided by panelled flowerheads, two either side, to each end on four square panelled supports with beaded rims and guilloche motif, joined by a conformingly decorated rectangular undertier and on stop-fluted turned tapering legs with brass caps, restorations, with indistinct pencil inscriptions to the undersides of the lower tiers

Lot Essay

The distinctive stop-fluted legs, panelled frieze with floral roundels and patera mounts all feature on a side table by Gustaf Adolf Ditzinger (d. 1800), which was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 8 December 1994, lot 575.
Ditzinger was an apprentice in Georg Haupt's workshop between 1776 and 1784, and in 1788 the cabinet-makers' guild in Stockholm granted Ditzinger the title of master.
