The oval and ribbed cradle with a swan-neck support, on a monopodia shaft with urn-finial, on arched tapering legs joined by a turned stretcher with toupie pendants and on castors, minor restorations to veneer and to brass mounts, the swan-neck spliced and restored

Lot Essay

This cradle is closely related to a design by Pierre de la Mésangère (d. 1831) executed between 1802 and 1835 and illustrated in the Journal des Dames et des Modes. A further model with gilt swan's-heads is illustrated as plate 651 in the Collection de Meubles et Objets de Goût.
