A PAIR OF ORMOLU AND CUT-GLASS TWO-LIGHT CANDELABRA

Each with a maiden's-mask within a star-burst and two griffins issuing a scrolling branch with segmented pendant, above a lyre-shaped shaft issuing two scrolling branches, terminating in fan-cut circular drip-pans suspending segmented droplets and urn-shaped spirally-fluted nozzles with fan-shaped edge, on a bulbous spirally-fluted shaft and foliate scrolling cap above the circular spreading facetted foot, stamped 'B'

Lot Essay

This pair of candelabra have identical backs to a candelabrum from the property of the Rosedown Plantation and Gardens, St. Francisville, Louisiana, which is illustrated in H. Parrott Bacot, Nineteenth Century Lighting, West Chester, Pennsylvania, 1987, p. 105.
