VERY RARE fête book describing the festivities at Savigliano welcoming Carlo Emanuel II and Maria Joanna de Nemours, sponsored by Giovanni Battista Trucchi. The folding plates depict the entrance procession through the triumphal arch which had been erected in honour of the marriage of Carlo Emanuel I and Catherine of Austria, with the identification of the occupants of the coaches; the piazza during a firework display, showing the square lit by candles and men lighting the fireworks; and the stage erected for the couple in the square to view the festivities. These plates are by Giovenale Boetto (ca.1603-ca.1676), a Fossano painter, architect and engraver, whose known work includes other commissions for the Savoy family (a portrait of Christiana, duchess of Savoy, and a genealogical table of the Princes of Savoy), frescos at Casa Garbolli in Fossano, and plates for another book printed by Zavatta at Turin in 1656, El Gelone Fauola Pastoral dell'Abbate Scoto (C. le Blanc, Manuel de l'amateur d'éstampes, Amsterdam: 1970, p.407, not recording the present work). The book pays almost equal tribute to Giovanni Battista Trucchi and he is celebrated in many madrigals, sonnets, epigrams and anagrams at the end of the book. Lozzi cites the edition, with mistakes (Carlo Emanuel III, etc.), but does not mention the plates. A very good, fresh copy. Not in Vinet, Cicognara, Berlin Kat. or the British Library; Lozzi, Biblioteca istorica, Imola: 1866, no. 4902: "Relazione assai rara".
