A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI GILTWOOD FAUTEUILS

Each with arched rectangular toprail trailed with husks and terminating in rosettes surmounted by foliate finials, the padded back, arms and seat covered in burgundy silk-velvet within a beaded and stiff-leaf frame carved with stop-fluted arms enriched with chandelles and terminated by spirally-fluted turned balusters, above a stiff-leaf and husk-trailed channelled seat-rail and on turned tapering legs with toupie feet, re-gilt and with signs of grey underpainting, each stamped 'JN*LX* BONNEMAIN', one with later block (2)

Lot Essay

Antoine Bonnemain maître, in 1753.
The stamp JN*LX*, as yet unidentified, is almost certainly that of a sculpteur en bois.
