A most attractive and rare antique diamond pendant
The central cushion-cut diamond weighing 8.60 carats to a circular-cut diamond rectangular surround with diamond foliate surmount and collet spray detail, mounted in silver and gold, circa 1890, 4.2cm. high (pendant loop deficient)
With certificate 8811038 dated 22/8/96 from The Gemological Institute of America stating that the diamond is G colour, VVS1 clarity

Lot Essay

Amongst the most appealing cuts of the 17th and 18th Century diamonds is the sugar loaf or rectangular cushion which with its relatively simple form allows the internal purity to be clearly visible. It is a shape often associated with early diamonds from the Golconda region and this stone is a particularly fine example.
