Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Ineke Wansink for suggesting the attribution by comparison with the set of decorative canvases from Heerestraat 78, Groningen, sold at Roos & Co., Amsterdam, 26 June 1917, lot 2; those are the only works hitherto known by the artist, who was born in Leeuwarden and died in Groningen.

Eight volumes of Joan Blaeu's Atlas Major, one of the finest atlases ever published, are shown, probably from the nine-volume edition of 1667.
