Lot Essay

De Wint made only one excursion abroad, in 1828, when he visited Normandy. He returned with a number of sketches and painted a few large-scale watercolours inlcuding Dieppe Castle from the Beach, now in the Usher Art Gallery, Lincoln. He exhibited a view of Rouen at the Old Watercolour Society in 1829, no. 172.
