This watercolour was previously in the collection of Victor Rienaecker and was formerly attributed to Paul Sandby, R.A. (1730-1809).
Victor Rienaecker formed a highly important collection of Modern Pictures and Watercolours, which was sold at Christie's London on 30 November 1923.
Waller's work rarely appears at auction. He was an artillery officer and amateur topographer who was promoted to Captain in 1795 and full Colonel in 1819. From 1818-1826 he commanded Charlemont Fort, County Armagh. Example's of Waller's work can be found in the County Museum, Armagh and the Laing Art Gallery Newcastle.
