The gadrooned well supported by three winged cherubim terminating in foliate-scroll feet
Blackish-brown patina with extensive black lacquer

Lot Essay

The present bronze, which is probably unique, is related to the inkstand formerly in the Castiglioni Collection, Vienna and the inkwell with Venus Marina from the collection of Heinz Schneider, Cleveland. The physiognomy of the putto face and the highly finished chasing of the present lot are typical of the work of Niccolò Roccatagliata.
