Lot Essay

Richard Krautheimer proposed an attribution to Francesco del Cairo (1607-1665), while Craig Smyth suggested Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli, Il Morazzone (1571-1626). Smyth compared this drawing with sheets of Jacob wrestling with the Angel in the British Museum and Saint Catherine in the Accademia Carrara, Bergamo, G. Bora, Il Seicento Lombardo, Catalogo dei Disegni, Milan, 1976, nos. 87, 96, illustrated.
