The wiry pen-line and the close hatching of this drawing is comparable in handling with Reni's drawings in the Uffizi, in the Teylers Museum, Haarlem and in the Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna, V. Birke, Guido Reni, Zeichnungen, exhib. cat., Albertina, Vienna, 1981, nos. 29, 84, illustrated and fig. 28.
The angel on the left seated on a cloud holding his arms up is recurrent in Reni's early pictures. Three pictures, respectively datable to 1600 or later, 1607 and 1612, show angels in a similar position to the one on the present drawing, D.S. Pepper, Guido Reni, Oxford, 1984, nos. 14, 26, 30, pls. 14, 27, 35.
