Lot Essay

Acanthus scrolls intertwined with putti are a recurrent theme in Tassi's decorative frescoes. Such scrolls appear in frescoes in the Loggia al Pianterreno in the Villa Lante, Bagnaia, dated 1613-15, and in the Sala Regia in the Palazzo del Quirinale, Rome, dated 1615-17, T. Pugliatti, Agostino Tassi tra conformismo e libertà, Rome, 1977, figs. 25-6, 31-4.
