Lot Essay

Conceived in 1969, The Marshal depicts John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn in the film True Grit, a role for which the actor was awarded the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' award for Best Actor in 1969. The Model was cast in an edition of 40 patinated and 20 painted examples.

The present bronze was cast in 1977 as a special commission for the Husky Oil Company.
