Lot Essay

A related Louis XVI clock on an ebony base mounted with Vitruvian scroll panels, the case stamped Joseph (for Joseph Baumhauer, d. 1772) is in the Wallace Collection (see F.J.B. Watson, Wallace Collection Catalogue, 1956, p. 55, fig. 267). A similar encrier from the Estate of Erna Stiebel was sold in these Rooms, 30 March 1995, lot 71.
