Lot Essay

The form of this elegantly inlaid table relates to a writing table with sliding top attributed to the Torninese intarsiatore Ignazio Revelli (d. 1836), sold Christie's London, 27 May 1993. Other related tables in the Palazzo Pitti are illustrated in E. Colle ed., I Mobili di Palazzo Pitti, 1992, pp. 94-99, figs. 26-29. The distinctive border of the top is similar to a drawing by Giuseppe Maggiolini (1738-1814) illustrated in G. Morazzoni, Il Mobile Intarsiato di Giuseppe Maggiolini, 1957, plate CIV.
