A LARGE BLUE AND WHITE DRAGON JAR
CHOSON DYNASTY (18TH/19TH CENTURY)

The large jar of high-shouldered ovoid form rising from a recessed base to the rounded shoulder and upright, cylindrical rim, painted in underglaze blue in graduated intensity of color with two large, writhing and snarling four-claw dragons chasing the 'flaming pearl' around the perimeter of the jar, the scales and details of the dragon bodies well-articulated; interspersed with the dragons are s-curved clouds, all framed by a collar of yo'i above the base and by a collar of yo'i at the neck, the jar additionally decorated with single lines of underglaze blue at the foot, base of the neck and rim, kiln grit at base--16¾in. (42.4cm.) high, 13¼in. (34cm.) diameter of shoulder
