The hallmark may be translated, 'Made for the hall of constancy', the residence of Zhai Quan, a grandson of the emperor Qianlong, and a famous collector of the Daoguang period who died in 1854. The inscription may be freely translated,
'A skiff inclined towards the sun
After nine days of rain and dew
Feelings of gratitude are deep
Don't resent the chrysanthemum
not having much beauty, since after
all it got its name before
the mallow flower'
