Painted in dark brown on the high shoulder with a broad band of tadpoles bordered above and below by concentric bands including a wavy band above a pair of ear-shaped handles applied with finger-pinched flanges, the tapering neck rising to an everted rim painted with parallel wavy bands

Lot Essay

Although the decoration on this jar is quite unusual, the shape and style of painting is consistent with other jars of the Maijiayao phase.
