Lot Essay

No other jar of this striking pattern with a blue and cream glaze appears to be published. Compare a sancai-glazed example of similar size and pattern, illustrated in Sekai toji zenshu, vol. 11, Tokyo, 1976, p. 138, no. 120; and a larger example (28.2 cm. high) with more densely arranged stripes glazed in blue and green, illustrated in Zhongguo taoci daxi; Han Tang taoci daquan (Chinese Ceramic Series; Han and Tang Ceramics), Taipei, 1988, p. 530

The result of Oxford thermoluminescence test no. 766n24 is consistent with the dating of this lot
