A LACQUER COSMETIC CASE WITH TRAY
MEIJI PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)

Of rectangular shape set on four short, bracket supports and fitted with a large lower drawer, two smaller drawers, deep top compartment and removable tray, which also serves as the lid of the top compartment, decorated on the exterior in togidashi, gold and silver hiramaki-e and gold and silver foil with clumps of iris in a flowing stream below gold, black and red fireflies, embellished by clouds of gold hirame and kimpun, the interior of the case compartments nashiji; the footed tray decorated in kinji and sumi-e togidashi with a landscape in a fan panel reserved on a ground matching the decoration of the exterior of the case within a green and gold border of foliate scroll, the underside of the tray nashiji; silver pulls--12½ x 8¼ x 7 7/8in. (31.7 x 21 x 20cm.)
