Carved and decorated in lacquer to simulate two figures cast in gilded bronze, each of a boy dressed in Chinese costume lavishly decorated in hiramaki-e with gold phoenixes, flowers and geometric bands, the patterns of the two costumes different, one boy holding a footed basin and the other a large lotus stalk, faces and limbs of the figures, costume and accoutrements lacquered in black to similate the dark patina of bronze and various decorative details gilded, set on lacquered wood bases--12 1/8in. (31.icm.) and 10¼in. (26cm.) high, excluding stands
