AN EARTHENWARE VASE AND COVER
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED DAI NIHON KYOTO TO TOJIKI GOSHIGAISHA RYOZAN
Of tapered quadrangular form fitted with a raised cover with spire knop, decorated in colored enamels and gilt with panels of a garden party at Kinkakuji above a panel of tea vessels, on one side, and with a panel of figures by a villa and garden above a panel of sea creatures on the other, and with two long, tapered panels of birds and flowers on the other two sides, all within elaborate brocade borders, the flat shoulder painted with four heart-shaped reserves of various emblems on a brocade ground, the cover matching--13in. (33cm.) high
