Lot Essay

A pair of mahogany chairs of this model were sold by Christie's London, 21 April 1994, lot 384. Both pairs with their distinctive roundel and fluted seatrail are closely related to a set of 'Eight painted chairs with Sifer' that were thought to have been supplied by Mayhew & Ince for Broadlands, Hampshire (see H. Roberts, 'The Ince and Mayhew Connection', part I, Country Life, 29 January 1981, p. 289, fig 4).
