COLETTE (1873-1954). Postcard photograph signed ("Colette Willy"), by Henri Manuel, [Paris] (caption and imprint from negative), n.d. [circa 1905]. 138 x 88 mm. (5 7/16 x 3 7/16 in.), some minor rubbing at edges, portion of signature on dark portion of image (but fully legible). A standing three-quarter portrait of the novelist and sometime music-hall dancer wearing a hat and with hands in a fur muffler, signed on the lower portion of the image. Very rare signed as "Colette Willy."
"Her full name was Sidonie Gabrielle Claudine Colette. Best remembered for Gigi, the story of a young Parisian courtesan too naive to be taken advantage of. Willy was her husband's pen name, which she shared until 1916"--W.M.
