Lot Essay

Bruce Metcalfe was one of the most prominent of the Canadian Pictorialists during the period 1927 to 1932. President of the Toronto Camera Club in the early 1930s, he was a leader in the Modernist faction of photographers exhibiting in Canada. His close-up studies of children's toys were widely reproduced in journals of the day.

This and the following two lots are the only known prints of these images in this format.
