The following lot and six subsequent lots come directly from the Estate of Edgar Scott. Throughout most of this century, Edgar and his wife, Helen Hope Montgomery Scott, ruled Philadelphia society from Ardrossan, their 750-acre Main Line estate. They amassed an important art collection, hosted many gala parties and were the inspiration for the 1940 film, The Philadelphia Story, starring Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant. The Cassatt prints were all gifts from the artist to her second cousin, Mrs. Thomas A. Scott, Edgar Scott's grandmother.
