Lot Essay

Around 1882 Rodin engaged the Italian sisters Adèle and Anna Abruzzesi as models; the former is best-known from the Torse d'Adèle. This study served as the basis for other sculptures, including the present work, and culminating in L'eternel printemps, 1884, which became one of Rodin's most popular sculptures.
