DOYLE, Sir ARTHUR. Autograph manuscript signed of the pirate story "Tales of the High Seas. The Governor of St. Kitts." Greyswood, Haslemere, n.d. [undoubtedly 1896]. 23 pages, oblong 8vo and small 4to, essentially quarto sheets separated in half with slight variation in height and some letters just touched, mostly about 183 x 200mm. (6 1/2 x 8in.), in black ink on lined paper with Doyle's customary sparse revisions, a few fore-margins a trifle chipped or a bit irregular, each leaf tipped to a small quarto sheet, black morocco gilt, gilt-lettered, by Stikeman. This short story in Doyle's series about the 18th-century pirate Captain Sharkey first appeared under the title "How the Governor of St. Kitt's Came Home," in Pearson's Magazine for January 1897 and in McClure's Magazine for May 1897; it was collected in Doyle's book The Green Flag and Other Stories of War and Sport, 1900.
