(11 1/8 [v.2: 11 1/16] x 7 1/2 in.), red hard-grained morocco, covers gilt panelled, spines gilt in six compartments, turn-ins gilt, g.e., by Bedford, joints and corners slightly rubbed, vol. 2 upper inner hinge weak, errata leaf for part 1 (fol. r1) bound in after preliminaries, unsigned errata leaf for parts 2-3 bound at end of part 2, general errata bifolium ()2 bound in at end of vol. 2, vol. 2 title supplied from another copy and with small marginal repairs, fol. 2:3I3 and Edinburgh map also supplied, the latter shaved close to rule borders slightly affecting image, 2:4Q4 torn and repaired, final index leaf (2N2) and 2-leaf errata rehinged, errata leaves partially remargined and with several small repaired holes, a dozen leaves with headlines shaved, some cropping to shoulder-notes, a few minor marginal repairs or short tears, washed and pressed, occasional light spotting. FIRST EDITION, black letter, double column, 4 title-pages within woodcut border (McKerrow & Ferguson 147a), printer's device (McKerrow 118), author's woodcut arms on versos of titles, numerous woodcuts in the text, many repeated, full-sheet woodcut view of Edinburgh in vol. 2 (bound in after Yyyy6), woodcut capital initials. In vol. 1, part 3, leaves [E6-8] were cancelled, and F7 is a cancel, as in most copies. In vol. 2, L7 and Xxxx1 are uncancelled and Oooo3 is a cancel.
