ARNOLD, BENEDICT, General. Autograph letter signed ("Bened. Arnold") to an unidentified correspondent, New Haven, 10 January 1766. 1 full page, folio, 320 x 190mm. (12 3/4 x 7 1/2 in.), browned, dampstained along central fold (affecting approximately two sentences of text), separations at folds neatly repaired from verso. A hastily written letter concerning the payment of a debt: "...Mr. Atwater...tells me it will suit you, to take rum for the protested Bill...I have now ship'd you...Veal, Ten H[ogs]h[ea]ds Rum...[W]ere I in Cash would much rather pay it you than Rum at 2/9, as it is usury in New York & very little in this part of the Country. Tea & cordage, at the pri[c]es you mention are much higher in New York than Boston, but as mine has on Rum, cannot venture to Ship any at Present...My Vessels are all Safe...Shall take it as a fav[o]r if you'd send me the Bill by post...[so] that I may be enabled to settle with One Mr. [Bernard] Lintot who is Commissioned to Receive the Debt I owe in England. The Sloop is not Taxable so that you can run no risque..."
