PEPYS, SAMUEL, and Sir WILLIAM PENN (1621-1670). Document signed ("Samuel Pepys" and "Wm. Penn"), as Secretary General of the Victualling Office and Captain of the Fleet respectiviely, countersigned by SIR GEORGE CARTERET (1610-1680), Treasurer, Royal Navy, later proprietor of the colony of New Jersey, n.p., 26 October 1661. 1 page, folio, small tears and chips at corners and fold, without loss, neatly tipped to another sheet, text in an elegant scribal hand. A naval requisition addressed to the Chancellor of the Exchequer ordering that, "in pursuance of an order from his Royall highness ye Duke of Yorke..you forthwith...enter Jeremy Earle Cooke of his Ma[jes]ties shipp Speedwell together with such an allowance of wages and victualls for himself and servant as so proper and usuall for a Cooke of his Ma[jes]ties said shipp..." Penn's son, William Penn was granted the colony of Pennsylvania as a result of the father's service to the crown in the Second Dutch War.
