Lot Essay

This richly inlaid marble top with densely scrolling foliage and strapwork surrounding a medallion with a parrot, derives from early seventeenth-century pietra dura table tops made by such great manufactories as the Grand Ducal workshop of Florence (see A.M. Giusti, Pietre Dure, 1992, p. 56, fig. 32 and p. 59, fig. 35).
