Lot Essay

This work, alternatively titled 'West Point Riding Academy', was used to illustrate George I. Putnam's story The American Cavalry School in the June 4, 1892 issue of Harper's Weekly. Although this work was reproduced in 1892, it was executed in 1891.

This work is scheduled for inclusion in the Buffalo Bill Historical Center's catalogue raisonné of the artist's flat works.
