Lot Essay

A wonderful coin, in quality of strike and condition, far superior in design to anything else being produced at the time. These rare 8-Reales from the mint of Nueva Viscaya are almost always poorly struck; there obviously were difficulties in operating the equipment. Only two or three sharply struck specimens survive.
