Lot Essay

These two part-dated pieces (see lot 419 also) are identical in style with the regular issue of 8-Reales from the Guanajuato mint (e.g. of 1833), yet are so beautifully struck that it is hard to conclude with certainty that they are Guanajuato mint products. Also, they occur in both silver and bronze. They are best considered Patterns rather than trial strikes from incomplete dies.
