Lot Essay

This table is unusual both for its demountable legs and for its beveled serpentine top. For another demountable table see Grace Wu Bruce, "Examples of Classic Chinese Furniture 1. A Folding Table", Oriental Art, Winter 1990/91, p. 233.

Consider the smaller side table with serpentine top included in the exhibition, The Dr. S. Y. Yip Collection of Classic Chinese Furniture, and illustrated by Grace Wu Bruce in the Catalogue, no. 17. See, also, the side table with serpentine top and elegant apron illustrated by Grace Wu Bruce, Chinese Classical Furniture, pl. 13
