1886 ST. LOUIS BROWNS PENDANT
A pendant presented to members of the St. Louis Browns as a trophy for winning the world championship in 1886; extremely ornate design with the extreme top a fist clenching a baseball extending from a diamond studded crown; the team name is embedded in enamel around a gold coin beneath the crown, above a 2 inch wide diamond shaped plaque with Champions enameled at the top and a globe extends outward from the center with Of the World enameled in the surface; filagree, crossed bats, and two nymphs (all attachments) surround the globe, the back is inscribed presented to A.J. Bushong by the citizens of St. Louis as a token of esteem, 1886 Mermol and Vaccare Jewlery Co. engraved at the bottom, extremely substantial. mint condition. 2 x 4 1/2 inches.
A.J. Bushong was the catcher for the 1886 World Champion St. Louis Browns. Apparently these jewlery pieces presented to all members of the team, much the way World Series rings are presented to today's players.
