Lot Essay

During his stay in London from 1893(5?)-1902, Borglum had the opportunity to meet the aging Ruskin (1819-1900). Upon his return to the United States, he sculpted this portrait of the critic for exhibition at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis.
